With the 2012 vintage we felt our understanding of this Valley as a whole, as well as its individual vineyards’ distinctions, coupled with one of California’s best winegrowing seasons allowed us our best chance yet at crafting perfect wine. We continue to trial new barrels, yeasts, fermentation methods, cellaring methods anything we can do to get a leg up and improve. In the winery we have established regimens that we feel best extract and capture the distinctions of these vineyards. As we hone in on these benchmark vineyards’ distinctions and work with our growing partners to improve quality, we continue to trial new vineyards, opening up more and more possibilities and in the process spreading our breadth of available blending components. We have made tremendous strides in viticulture efforts to provide us the best possible raw materials. With each vintage comes a better understanding of what different vineyards bring to the table as far as aromatics, color, flavor profile and texture. In this case, we are talking about the Five Noble Bordeaux varieties grown here in the Livermore Valley. By perfect, we mean expressive of both the varietal make up and the region in which it is grown. The J Lohr Website recommends pairing the wine with wild mushroom risotto or herb crusted leg of lamb.Since harvest 2008, we have been on a mission to find the best Bordeaux vineyards in the Livermore Valley with one goal in mind: crafting the perfect wine. The J Lohr Cab is an excellent Best Buy at Costco for $11.89. Paso Robles grows terrific Bordeaux grapes. Perhaps the complexity comes from the blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petite Sirah, 7% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Syrah, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 3% other red grapes. The J Lohr has the dark fruit flavors of Cabernet. So many inexpensive California Cabs do not have the flavor profiles of a traditional Cab. The J Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is the real deal as far as a Cabernet Sauvignon wine goes. J Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 A lovely-tasting Cabernet Sauvignon for under $12 This a perfect wine for any red meat dishes. The BDX is big-style wine, rich with black fruit flavors and a touch of earthiness. More and more wineries are offering red blends these days, and this is a good one. I am impressed with the wine, well made with generous Bordeaux-style flavors. The BDX is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 11% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec, and 2% Cabernet Franc. This Bordeaux blend appears to be an exclusive for Costco. Nottingham Cellars is a Livermore winery, but these grapes are from the Central Valley. The excellent Nottingham Cellars BDX 2016 Made for Costco? Nottingham Cellars BDX 2017 The Charles Krug winery is located on Highway 29 in St. The barrel room was originally built in 1872. The winery recently remodeled their tasting room and opened their barrel room to visitors. It is not my type of Sauvignon Blanc, but many love the acidity and citrus flavors of New Zealand S.B. The Charles Krug Sauvignon Blanc is made in a New Zealand Style, lots of grapefruit and other citrus flavors. Almost everyone else carries this wine for about $18. The price for the Sauvignon Blanc is $12.79. This is the first time I have seen the Charles Krug Sauvignon Blanc, or any Charles Krug wine, at Costco.
